Blog

My name is Latoyia Anderson, and I am married with a new baby and three older children. I had the hardest time getting domesticated, for my single people, that is the term used for married couples and their duties in the household. I was always a career woman, take out, and cleaning services were my best friends. After school programs for the kids were a way of life.

My heart goes out to my stay at home moms they are underpaid survival specialist. I was always so envious of stay at home moms. Then I became a stay at home and OMG I had no clue what I was doing.

Sunday Meals were my Ritual.

Now you have to cook a meal in 30 mins no way no how it’s not happening unless it was in a meal in a bag. Nothing against my frozen meals but a homecooked meal is what a hard working man or woman wants when they get home. Isn’t that what you paid for when you ordered out?  Now on another note cleaning out closets, bathrooms, kitchen cabinets and the list goes on and on.

Why Can’t we Hire a Maid?

Now on another note cleaning out closets, bathrooms, kitchen cabinets and the list goes on and on. Not that I’m a slob or a poor housekeeper, but I believed in weekly cleaning and daily maintenance. If your budget can handle a maid, I say go for it, but if your budget went from two income to one income, I suggest keeping the money and getting a whole lot of cleaning supplies. Then the kids and their extracurricular activities. My kids have been in daycare every since they were little when the six weeks were over they were off to the races, and I was back at work.

I have Tips for You Career Women!

If you want to transition to stay at home life, my goal is to make your transition more manageable for you. Then you have the kids and their extracurricular activities. My kids have been in daycare every since they were little when the six weeks were over they were off to the races, and I was back at work. So I understand, trust me I know you want to be home with the babies.

Step one. Make a Schedule.

Write down everything you want to accomplish for the week and create a schedule I use my assistant on my phone. Use whichever tool works for you. If you do not want to schedule for the week start small do day to day schedules. You have a lot to get through in one day. I plan ahead; I take out the meat for dinner the night before.

Step two. Breathe.

Do not get overwhelmed with everyday life at home. Breathe there may not be enough time in the day for everything you have to do. Kids schedules, cooking, cleaning and time for yourself.

Step three. Meal Preparation.

Find recipes that work for you. I could not make a meal in 30 mins or less unless it came in a bag. Now I can thaw out some meat whichever meat you like for the night and make it colorful. I use Pillsbury recipes, and WIC website has the best colorful plans that create a home cooked meal, and everyone will enjoy.

Step four. Take a walk.

Here is something I recommend you do daily.  Walking clears your mind and gives you a break from being the go-to person. I miss being at work just because I can be an employee and not everyone is looking for me to do everything. This is the famous line you will always hear, “oh Mom will do it.”

Step Five. The most Important (Delegate).

Make a game out of the household chores. Get the kids and the family involved. Turn up the music, I listen to old-school Motown and blast out Pandora on my speaker. Have a dance off while you’re sweeping the floor. You have to have fun, or you will go crazy.

We will stop here for the day, and I will go more in depth next week and go into the further discussion and more experiences that I have been through with changing over from my working outside the home and now staying home full time with my little one.

I wish there were a handbook when I decided to stay home to give me that could give me all the tips and tools for running a domesticated household.

Here is the killer guys, my husband was way more domesticated than me smh I mean ladies aren’t we born to take care of a home. Do not take it personally I was so upset that I could not get a handle on getting household and planning down to a tee. Do not get overwhelmed it will come to you it takes time everything new that you learn takes time.
